Last month we had a really cool opportunity to collaborate with Coletrain Music Academy and sponsor their Kids Music Workshop at Billy Strings’ Renewal Festival in Buena Vista, Colorado. TBJ Founder and mandolin player Patrick Fitzsimons and TBJ fiddle player Coleman Smith teamed up with an incredible list of musicians and educators to teach the 70+ kids who registered. Additional instructors included Grace & Gordon from Roma Ransom, Casey Houlihan from Trout Steak Revival, Miles & Teo Quale from Crying Uncle, LeAnna Miller from The Whiskey Sweets, and Bonnie Lea Culpepper. It was an absolute honor to make music along side these other artists who understand the value in providing music education and the special impact it can have when presented at a music festival. For the kids who didn’t register for the workshop, there was a drop-in kids music camp and creative station where hundreds of little ones got to paint special Greetings From Renewal postcards, and get up close and personal with both string and percussion instruments!
We’d like to give a huge shout out to one or our sponsors, Elderly Instruments who donated and discounted a fleet of guitars, ukuleles and mandolins to ensure we could serve as many kids as possible.
We hope you enjoy these photos and video captured by Elliot Siff.
